'No pathway': Chris Christie reportedly bows out of No Labels third-party consideration

Chris Christie won't roll up the sleeves to take on Donald Trump as a third party candidate.

The Washington Post reported the former New Jersey governor scratched his name off of the list of potentials that No Labels hopes to formalize ahead of the November 5 election to rival President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.

“I appreciate the encouragement I’ve gotten to pursue a third-party candidacy,” Christie informed The Post on Wednesday. “While I believe this is a conversation that needs to be had with the American people, I also believe that if there is not a pathway to win and if my candidacy in any way, shape or form would help Donald Trump become president again, then it is not the way forward.”...

'Several misconceptions': No Labels' third-party claims torn apart by election analyst

No Labels, the purportedly centrist political organization that says it has managed to gather the support it needs to be included on 2024 election ballots in four states, is misrepresenting its path to the presidency, an election analyst wrote Friday.

Despite a severe distaste for both political parties that dominate the U.S., No Labels' third-party bid is based on misrepresentations about the nature of how politics works, according to senior FiveThirtyEight elections analyst, Geoffrey Skelley.

"It’s too early to evaluate whether No Labels’s candidate could be a spoiler for the Democratic nominee, but the group’s belief that it could mount a victorious campaign rests on several misconceptions about contemporary politics," Skelley wrote on Friday. "First and foremost, the share of the electorate made up by independent moderates isn’t large enough to win a presidential election."...

Rick Wilson slams No Labels for calling Donald Trump a ‘problem solver’

The Lincoln Project’s Rick Wilson on Thursday slammed No Labels over the ostensibly centrist group’s recent characterization of Donald Trump as a “problem solver.”

The Lincoln Project co-founder during an episode of “ The Breakdown” urged voters not to take at face value No Labels’ claim that it’s working to push back against hyperpartisanship by running centrist candidates.

Wilson played a video clip in which No Labels co-founder Holly Page suggests that at least to some degree, Trump exemplifies the group’s stated values....

No Labels has ties to DeSantis and other Republicans: report

The bipartisan group No Labels quietly employed a firm with ties to GOP candidates during its push for a unity ticket presidential bid, Politico reported.

"The firm, Blitz Canvassing, was paid a total of $107,000 by No Labels’ affiliated nonprofit entity, Insurance Policy for America, to help it gather signatures in Colorado, the first state where No Labels, which has floated the idea of an independent presidential unity ticket in 2024, qualified as a minor political party. This would allow it to field a presidential candidate in the state," Politico's report stated.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis paid Blitz Canvassing over $8 million in 2022, according to Florida campaign finance records. Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ) and Colorado GOP Senate candidate Joe O’Dea also were clients of the firm in 2022. ...

Ex-congressman welcoming Trump reelection with ‘reckless’ third-party candidate effort: columnist

A South Carolina newspaper columnist on Tuesday blasted a former local Democratic congressman over his public support for the No Labels campaign that he contends will lead to a second Donald Trump term.

The Post and Courier’s Chris Kenney assailed Joe Cunningham after the former congressman authored an op-ed the outlet published Saturday in support of No Labels, which supports centrist, bi-partisan policies and politics.

Cunningham, who represented South Carolina’s 1st congressional district from 2019 to 2021, argued that President Joe Biden’s plummeting poll numbers warrant a third-party candidacy. He cited a recent ABC News-Washington Post poll that showed Trump leading Biden by seven points....
