GOP lawmaker makes dig at Trump for 'lobbying' for Nobel Peace Prize: 'It looks unseemly'

Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) took an apparent dig at President Donald Trump Friday for his “lobbying” efforts toward being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, which instead was awarded to Venezuelan politician Maria Corina Machado Friday morning, outraging a swath of MAGA faithful.

For years, Trump has remarked at how he should be awarded the prestigious honor, and complained about having not received it. This year, however, the White House and its foreign allies have launched an aggressive lobbying effort to see Trump nominated for the award, with Trump frequently bragging about having stopped “eight wars,” despite the claim being rebuked by critics.

Appearing on CNN, Bacon was asked whether he thought Trump should have won the Nobel Peace Prize, to which he said Trump would be “better off” ignoring the award, and that the lobbying efforts looked “unseemly.”...

'Awkward': Marco Rubio needled online for nominating non-Trump winner of Nobel Peace Prize

President Donald Trump has spent his first year in office claiming victories in wars and proclaiming his role in creating peace among warring nations, contending that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. However, this year’s prize was awarded to María Corina Machado—a Venezuelan opposition leader—garnering notable support from some of Trump’s own allies.

National security expert Marcy Wheeler noted that Secretary of State Marco Rubio may face awkwardness due to his endorsement of a letter urging the committee to award Machado the peace prize, despite the submission coming before his time with Trump.

In a letter still visible on Sen. Rick Scott's (R-FL) Senate website, he and Rubio argued, "In our work as policymakers who strive for democracy and human rights in the face of dictatorial regimes in the Western Hemisphere and beyond, we have rarely witnessed such courage, selflessness, and firm grasp of morality as we have in María Corina Machado."...

'What an absolute joke!' MAGA melts down after Nobel Peace Prize Trump snub

The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded its annual Nobel Peace Prize Friday to one Maria Corina Machado, a Venezuelan politician and leader of a resistance movement against President Nicolas Maduro, sparking absolute fury from supporters of President Donald Trump who argue he was more deserving of the award.

“Imagine thinking a woman who cries nonstop about Nicolas Maduro has done more for the world than President Trump,” wrote right-wing influencer Laura Loomer, a powerful Trump ally that wields “breathtaking influence” in the White House, in a social media post Friday on X.

“What an absolute joke. Everyone knows President Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. More affirmative action nonsense.”...

Nobel Prize in physics awarded to Agostini, Krausz and L'Huillier

This year's Nobel Prize in Physics is awarded to Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krausz and Anne L'Huillier for experiments that gave humanity new tools to explore the world of electrons in atoms and molecules, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said on Tuesday. They were selected "for experimental methods that generate attosecond pulses of light for the study of electron dynamics in matter," the academy said. Ferenc Krausz conducts research as director at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics (MPQ) in Garching, near Munich, and at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. Anne L'Huillier works ......
Why the United States dominates the Nobels

Why the United States dominates the Nobels

Washington (AFP) - No fewer than eight of this year's 13 Nobel winners were American citizens, extending a historic trend tied to the strength of US academia and its ability to attract top world talent. American universities consistently dominate "Global top 100" rankings, with a mix of private "Ivy Leagues" with lavish endowments and prestigious state colleges.  Since the first Nobels were awarded in 1901, the US has racked up 400 medals, followed by the United Kingdom with 138 and Germany with 111 -- these figures include people affiliated with multiple countries. "I'm really appreciative of......
