TRIPOLI — Libya's transitional justice minister Mohammed al-Alagi said on Monday that Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, the only person convicted in the 1988 Lockerbie bombing, should not face a new prosecution.
The only man convicted for the 1988 bombing of a Pan Am jet which killed 270 people when it blew up over the Scottish town of Lockerbie is drifting in and out of a coma, his brother said on Monday.
Ailing Libyan agent Abdelbaset Ali Mohmet al-Megrahi, convicted for life over the 1988 Lockerbie bombing, made his first public appearance in nearly two years at a meeting in support of strongman Moamer Kadhafi.
A Swedish newspaper has quoted one of Libya's former ministers as saying he had proof that leader Muammar Gaddafi ordered the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, which exploded over the Scottish town of Lockerbie in 1988.
