CHICAGO — While eviscerating Vice President Kamala Harris' law enforcement record outside of the Democratic National Convention, a top MAGA lawmaker heaped praise on former President Donald Trump for his support of police officers.

But Raw Story, which attended the briefing Tuesday at the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago, had questions about this for Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) given the Trump campaign's long history of not paying police bills.

Donalds, acknowledging Raw Story, told male reporters assembled, "fellas, all put your hands down," and called on Raw Story's female reporter after he'd first taken "three men questions."...

When former President Donald Trump makes a campaign appearance — whether its at fairgrounds in South Carolina or an Iowa fraternity house — along comes a rowdy crowd of thousands of supporters in bedazzled MAGA hats and Trump mugshot T-shirts shouting “U-S-A” chants.

And without fail, there’s local men and women in uniform — often from local police and fire departments — enlisted to provide security and keep the peace at the rallies for the former president who is facing 91 felony counts across four indictments and a New York civil trial that threatens to upend his business empire.

A year-long series of investigations by Raw Story found that eight of Trump’s campaign visits cost local taxpayers at least $100,000 in total — expenses that the Trump campaign refuses to pay and which local municipalities end up covering....

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley issued a statement Monday based on a recent Raw Story article, calling on former President Donald Trump to pay law enforcement who protect his presidential campaign events.

Haley cited Raw Story’s article “Siren: New Hampshire town eats Trump security bills while Haley pays local police,” where Raw Story obtained documents through an open records request showing that Trump’s June 27 visit to Concord, N.H., cost the local police and fire departments $3,778.85.

Haley, the former governor of South Carolina and a former U.N. ambassador under the Trump administration, said Trump should pay for costs incurred by law enforcement who will be staffing his visit Monday afternoon in Derry, N.H....
