'Human chain' forms around Kennedy Center with massive anti-Trump protest

Hundreds of protesters linked hands around the Kennedy Center on Friday night, days after its Trump-appointed board voted to close the building and as the president again tied his help saving it to getting credit for the effort.

CNN reported that the Kennedy Center laid off about a dozen employees Friday, cutting further into what the network described as an already skeleton staff.

The rally was organized by Hands Off the Arts, which said it was protesting the president's "defacing of JFK's memorial," the removal and censorship of art, and his threat to demolish the center if he cannot remake it in his image....

Trump DHS accused of retaliating against ICE observers by stripping travel rights

A new lawsuit is accusing the Department of Homeland Security of punishing protesters by taking away certain travel rights.

The Intercept, an online news agency, filed the lawsuit against DHS after the agency failed to respond to a records request made under the Freedom of Information Act. The records related to reports that immigration agents have retaliated by taking away passports, TSA PreCheck, and Global Entry access.

The filing detailed how "a civilian observing ICE submitted a declaration stating that her TSA PreCheck and Global Entry were revoked three days after an encounter with immigration enforcement officials."...

Protesters crash White House Correspondents' Dinner shouting 'arrest Pete Hegseth!'

Protesters crash White House Correspondents' Dinner shouting 'arrest Pete Hegseth!'

A couple of protesters made a scene before the start of the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday to demand Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's arrest for what they called "war crimes."

"Arrest Pete Hegseth for war crimes! Arrest Pete Hegseth for war crimes," one of the protesters yelled from the red carpet as Trump officials were showing up.

The two protesters showed up before the dinner was underway. One wore a Hegseth mask and held up his handcuffed arms while dancing around. The other yelled that Hegseth needs to be arrested "for threatening genocide, for kidnapping Nicolas Maduro, for overseeing target strikes," referring to "illegitimate" military action in Iran and Venezuela. ...

Trump antifa terror claim faces stern test in trial of ICE firework protesters

A trial set to begin on Tuesday in Fort Worth, Texas will test whether President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice can use a criminalized notion of “antifa” to convict nine anti-ICE activists of attempted murder and terrorism, after they shot fireworks and vandalized government vehicles.

On July 4 last year, most of the defendants showed up at the Prairieland ICE detention facility 25 miles south of Fort Worth to put on a fireworks display for immigrant detainees. A smaller group used spray paint to graffiti vehicles in the parking lot.

They dressed in black and concealed their faces with masks — a tactic commonly known as “black bloc.” One activist, former Marine Corps reservist Benjamin Song, carried an AR-15 rifle. A wagon nearby was stocked with an additional rifle, body armor and bottled water. One activist had guns in his car. ...

'All I've been doing is crying': ICE's grip decimates Minneapolis' small businesses

As Minneapolis residents face clashes with federal immigration enforcement agents that have resulted in the killings of two people in the past month, small business owners like Shontay Evans say federal agents’ presence in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul is threatening their financial survival.

Citing declining sales in an atmosphere of fear and distrust, Evans, 41, said she was considering closing Tay’s Secret Garden, a plant nursery she has operated out of her home in St. Paul for seven years.

“Everybody's saving their money because they're scared,” Evans told Raw Story. “It's been pretty rough lately.”...

Republicans squirm as they feel heat on Trump gun rights switcheroo

WASHINGTON — Top Trump administration officials have challenged long-held GOP orthodoxy on the Second Amendment in recent weeks — bringing condemnation from gun rights groups but notably not Republicans in Congress.

Democrats say this is yet another example of a dangerously divisive hypocrisy that holds the left and right to different standards.

“What we're seeing is complete hypocrisy. It's both stunning and crazy,” Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) told Raw Story at the Capitol this week. ...
