FBI Director Kash Patel and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles "helped personally orchestrate" an investigation into who leaked information about President Donald Trump's Qatari-gifted airplane and its security shortcomings — demanding some officials turn over their phones, according to a new CNN report published Wednesday.

Trump was apparently furious that information about the plane, which was meant to be used as Air Force One, went public. Investigators were reportedly seeking information from officials who traveled with the president.

A source told CNN that as the investigation was underway, at least one federal agency contacted its employees via email to warn that if they were contacted by outside agencies or groups requesting information or devices, then they should contact their agency's attorneys....

WASHINGTON — A $400 million plane offered to President Donald Trump by Qatar may be a gaudy symbol of graft, but to some Democrats on Capitol Hill it’s also a distraction.

As Trump settles back into Washington after a week in the Middle East, Democrats are glad presidential ethics, or the lack of them, have finally been spotlighted, nearly five months into Trump’s second term. But many say the intense scrutiny Trump received while he was abroad barely scratched the surface.

“The plane is the second-biggest scandal on this trip,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) told Raw Story. “The $2 billion crypto investment in Trump stablecoin [by an Emirati firm] is the more offensive grift.” ...

CNN's Boris Sanchez called out Rep. Mark Alford (R-MO) for "chuckling" when asked about the Qatari airplane controversy surrounding President Donald Trump, as if it were all much ado about nothing.

"I'd love to get you on the record regarding this planned gift from the Qatari government to the president," Sanchez began. "This luxury jet, worth hundreds of millions of dollars — you laugh — I do wonder whether you think this is — "
