Legal experts flagged a newly declassified memo that the White House called deep-state proof, even though it was about Trump's FBI.

During an interview on "All Rise News," legal journalists Adam Klasfeld and Allison Gill dissected the declassified FBI memo that the White House touted as proof of a "deep state" plot against President Donald Trump, even though it actually revealed that the FBI investigated him during his first term as a possible Russian asset.

"It's just one gunshot to the foot after another," Gill, who chronicled the probe by Department of Justice special counsel Robert Mueller, said. The memo was released by former reporter John Solomon and is dated the day before Mueller's May 2017 appointment....

President Donald Trump's proven method for getting out of a scandal he claims is a "hoax" or a "witch hunt" is falling flat this time around mostly because of his own doing, according to The New Republic.

Writer Matt Ford posited that Trump is "struggling to an unusual degree" as he's unable to shake his association with sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein because of his very own executive orders.

"It is striking how poorly his usual playbook will work for the Epstein files debacle," Ford wrote, adding that Trump "cannot credibly claim that he is the victim of some kind of 'witch hunt,' even though he is trying to do so."...

Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IO) used his opening statements during Pam Bondi's attorney general confirmation hearing, to air his grievances against the Biden Justice Department in general, and Special Counsel Jack Smith in particular.

Grassley introduced Bondi and spoke of her accomplishments as Florida's attorney general before launching into his attack.

"I know, as other people on this committee and in and out of Congress know, what government weaponization is. And then we get to Special Counsel Jack Smith and his 'lawfare' operation. It involved an unprecedented FBI raid on Trump's house, including agents that even searched the former first lady's clothing drawers. Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden certainly did not receive the same treatment by government regarding their records."...

The final report by Trump administration-backed special counsel John Durham concluded this week that the FBI should never have investigated former President Donald Trump's ties to Russia in 2016.

But aside from contradicting the 2019 inspector general report on the same subject, Durham's report completely ignores a simple reality, wrote columnist Michael A. Cohen for MSNBC: an earlier special counsel, Robert Mueller, took over from the FBI, concluded that investigation, and discovered widespread misconduct by the Trump campaign.

"More than four years after the release of the Mueller report, its conclusions about the breadth of Donald Trump’s breathtakingly unethical and criminal behavior have largely been flushed down the national memory hole. But contrary to the repeated claims of Trump and his enablers, the Mueller report didn’t exonerate the former president," wrote Cohen. "In May 2019, Mueller made it clear that if he and his team had 'had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so.' They didn’t. In fact, the Mueller report remains a singularly damning indictment of Trump. It highlights repeated instances when the former president and current front-runner for the 2024 Republican nomination not only colluded with Russian officials to influence the 2016 election, but also repeatedly obstructed justice as president."...
