'Children in this country are in the most dangerous position ever': Doctor issues warning

Dr. Susan Monarez was forced out of President Donald Trump’s administration after she refused to endorse purported junk science promoted by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his allies. Several other top experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and at HHS also resigned in protest, similarly refusing to approve the allegedly false medical information.

This exodus of experts at the nation’s top public health agencies is putting U.S. children at risk for the return of once-eradicated diseases. The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health reports that measles cases have reached their highest levels since the disease was declared eliminated in the United States in 2000.

Dr. Paul Offit, Director of the Vaccine Education Center at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, told MSNBC that completely healthy young children have died due to the resurgence of measles in the past 33 years....

'Talk show': RFK Jr. slammed for turning vital health panel into circus

Donald Trump’s Health Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., reduced a key government immunizations committee to a “talk show” by inviting a presentation from a leading anti-vaccine campaigner, a former senior government physician said.

Dr. Fiona Havers also said her prediction on resigning last month as a senior adviser on vaccine policy at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), that Americans would die as a result of Kennedy’s actions, was coming true.

In June, Kennedy fired all 17 members of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, or ACIP. Last week, the new members held a public meeting....

'Cruel irony': Skeptical analyst trounces White House claim that Trump 'follows science'

CNN's chief climate correspondent Bill Weir scoffed Thursday at the White House assertion that President Donald Trump 'follows science.'

This week the Trump administration put out a statement, titled, "On Earth Day, We Finally Have a President Who Follows Science."

CNN's Dana Bash read part of the statement, saying the Trump administration was "leveraging environmental policies rooted in reality to promote economic growth while maintaining the standards that have afforded Americans the cleanest air and water in the world for generations." ...

'Vaporizing': Columnist argues America's greatness is disappearing under Trump

President Donald Trump's actions of the past six weeks have positioned him to forfeit "what could have been the next great American century," argued columnist Catherine Rampell in a new Washington Post opinion piece.

Rampell proffered that three simple steps were all Trump needed to position America "to lose the 21st century," despite his obsession with what he perceives as all that "winning."

The first step in the "losing" strategy, according to Rampell is: "Alienate your friends."...

No matter where you live, extreme weather can hit your area, causing damage to homes, power outages, and dangerous or deadly conditions. If you’re on the coast, it may be a hurricane; in the Midwest or South, a tornado; in the West, wildfires; and as we’ve seen in recent years, anywhere can experience heat waves or flash flooding.

Living through a disaster and its aftermath can be both traumatic and chaotic, from the immediate losses of life and belongings to conflicting information around where to access aid. The weeks and months after may be even more difficult, as the attention on your community is gone but civic services and events have stalled or changed drastically. ...

South Africa plans to ‘bomb’ mice that eat albatrosses alive

Conservationists said Saturday that they plan to bomb a remote South African island with tons of pesticide-laced pellets to kill mice that are eating albatrosses and other seabirds alive.

Hordes of mice are devouring the eggs of some of the world’s most important seabirds that nest on Marion Island, about 2,000 kilometers (1,240 miles) southeast of Cape Town, and have started eating live birds, leading conservationist Mark Anderson said.

This includes the iconic Wandering Albatross, with a quarter of the world’s population nesting on the Indian Ocean island....
