A former GOP operative warned on Monday that Republicans in red state Florida have a serious problem on their hands as November approaches.

Rick Wilson, the co-founder of the anti-Trump group The Lincoln Project, spoke with veteran politics reporter Scott MacFarlane for a Substack live video about the growing divide among the GOP as midterms approach.

"Florida is shocking people right now because a year ago, everybody thought it was the reddest of red states, that it was Alabama with better beaches," Wilson said. President Donald Trump's push to create a $1.8 billion fund that could compensate Capitol rioters has become deeply unpopular among lawmakers, with many showing signs that they plan to reject it altogether, a reporter told MS NOW on Thursday.

Scott MacFarlane, chief Washington correspondent and anchor at MeidasTouch, told MS NOW anchor Chris Jansing that several Jan. 6, 2021 defendants were seeking millions of dollars from the new fund — something that has infuriated both Democrats and Republicans.

"A whole bunch of them are publicly pronouncing it," MacFarlane said. "And that is the last thing this very fragile slush fund needs, is people who are accused of seditious conspiracy, are being part of the January 6th attack, publicly saying they want their money. A CNN journalist expects the new indictment against former FBI Director James Comey to backfire against acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche.

"There's a long trajectory ahead here, and there is a grave risk to Todd Blanche that this thing blows up in his face in court," journalist Scott MacFarlane said on "The Lead" with Jake Tapper on Tuesday.

President Donald Trump has presented a new problem for the United States through cuts made to the DOJ, a former insider has claimed.

Former pardon attorney Liz Oyer, speaking with Washington D.C. correspondent Scott MacFarlane, suggested that cuts made by the Trump administration had put the country into a dangerous spot. Specifically, cuts made to the Justice Department.

Oyer said, "They are absolutely stretched too thin. They lost a disproportionate number of experienced attorneys in part because those people have been able to retire, they have lost a disproportionate number of people from different divisions including the national security division. ...

The American Bar Association, which boasts hundreds of thousands of attorney members, is fighting back against the Trump administration's targeting of law firms and attorneys that have run afoul of the president, according to CBS News.

Kellye SoRelle, an attorney who represented the far-right Oath Keepers militia, has been found incompetent to stand trial for the charges against her, reported CBS News' Scott MacFarlane on Thursday.

"In court proceeding just now, Judge Amit Mehta reveals a competency issue has been raised in criminal case of one-time Oath Keepers attorney and current Jan 6 defendant Kellye Sorelle," said MacFarlane on Twitter. "'Restoration' process being discussed now. She’s not in pretrial custody. Could delay case."

Mehta, MacFarlane continued, "says there’s been a conclusion reached that Oath Keepers lawyer Kellye Sorelle is 'incompetent' in case, but judge says no full report is available yet, nor is there 'recommendation for restoration' yet. Sorelle has co-defendants in Jan 6 case. Case could proceed without her."...
