'Stone age thinking': Dem lawmaker says Trump admin's new policies 'will kill Americans'

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s suggestion that farmers allow bird flu to spread among their flocks was met with disbelief by Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL), who appeared on CNN Thursday.

The New York Times reported Kennedy's comments on Fox News that farmers "should consider maybe the possibility of letting it run through the flock so that we can identify the birds, and preserve the birds, that are immune to it."

Anchor John Berman began, "One of the things that he suggested was possibly — and he didn't use these words — but, you know, 'let it rip' in a few places, let the chickens pass it on in certain confined areas to see which ones might be immune, so that they can then try to breed the ones that are immune and expand from there. I saw on your Twitter feed you had some criticism over that." ...

Busted: 62 members of Congress caught breaking the law

At least 62 members of 118th Congress have violated a federal insider trading and conflicts-of-interest law, a Raw Story analysis of congressional financial disclosures reveals.

Most of these violations involve failures to properly disclose stock trades as required by the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act of 2012. Some involve not abiding by the transparency and personal financial disclosure requirements first outlined in the STOCK Act's post-Watergate predecessor, the Ethics in Government Act of 1978.

Gallego on Tuesday disclosed an August 2019 purchase of non-publicly traded stock in investment advisory, Aspiration Fund Adviser LLC, valued between $15,001 and $50,000.

Gallego also purchased corporate securities in pronunciation guide services company NameCoach Inc. in June 2022. This investment is also valued between $15,001 and $50,000....

Sen. John Fetterman violates financial law with botched corporate bond disclosures

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) and three other members of Congress appear to have violated federal law by filing late financial disclosures.

Reps. Stephanie Bice (R-OK) and Sean Casten (D-IL), along with Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN), were also tardy in reporting investment transactions.

Fetterman this week formally reported 30 corporate bond transactions and one stock sale made on behalf of his dependent children during 2023 — with the oldest transaction reported about 17 months after a federally mandated deadline....

Deadline demolished: Illinois congressman violates federal financial disclosure law

CHICAGO — An Illinois congressman failed to report eight investments as required by federal financial disclosure law — as much as two-and-a-half years late in some cases, according to a Raw Story analysis of congressional records.

Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL) is the latest lawmaker to violate the decade-old Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act by improperly reporting purchases of Myno Carbon Corp. stock through a family investment vehicle.

Total value: between $127,008 and $380,000....

'Grow up': House Dem says too much 'at stake' to waste time appeasing 'idiot wing' of GOP

Rep. Sean Casten (D-Illinois) unleashed on his Republican colleagues in a 16-tweet thread on Friday, urging them to "grow up" and govern before a "disastrous" government shutdown paralyzes federal agencies eight days from now.

In his thread, Rep. Casten contrasted the way Democrats wielded their House majority with Republicans' more chaotic time in charge of the House of Representatives. He explained that because Congress operates on a fiscal year schedule that ends on September 30, Democratic leaders like former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) made sure the House passed its funding bills by the end of August each session so there was plenty of time for the US Senate to review appropriations and for the president to sign them into law.

When Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-California) still held the speaker's gavel, Rep. Casten pointed out that he was so incompetent at keeping his caucus in line that simply following the law by keeping the government funded was seen as beyond the pale by his caucus....
