'Something going on': New mystery emerges around scandal-plagued Trump nominee

Republican senators are mulling whether to defy President Donald Trump by rejecting his dubious pick for U.S. attorney, Ed Martin, news outlets reported Thursday.

Politico's Kyle Cheney posted on X Thursday, "Something is going on with Ed Martin's nomination to be US attorney in D.C. But what, precisely, is unclear Sen. Durbin said this AM: 'It’s my understanding that we are not going to move forward on the Martin nomination.' Grassley said he'd have more to say when Martin's nomination was officially on the calendar."

In a follow-up post, Cheney wrote, "Durbin said he had planned to ask for a vote on Martin today but 'on the basis of the chairman's — I hope, my clear understanding — I'm not going to make that move.' Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) hosted a town hall in Fort Madison, Iowa, on Tuesday, where voters expressed their frustrations on a variety of topics, including the economy, tariffs, mass federal cuts, and President Donald Trump's deportation policies.

A second voter asked a similar question: "I believe very strongly in my Christian faith. I preach on Sundays, and I believe very strongly in, 'we welcome the stranger.' I think turning away people who have come here for asylum is one of the most shameful things we are doing right now. " ...

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who's in the middle of the Signal messaging app scandal that inadvertently revealed an impending military strike to a journalist, made an angry post on social media Wednesday once again denying that "war plans" were revealed.

"So, let’s me get this straight," Hegseth began on Wednesday.

"The Atlantic released the so-called 'war plans' and those 'plans' include: No names. No targets. No locations. No units. No routes. No sources. No methods. And no classified information. Those are some really s----y war plans."...

'One-two GOP punch': Analyst sees Democrats embracing a 'gamble' that may backfire

Senate Democrats are facing a dilemma over whether to reach across the aisle to prevent a possible government shutdown or just allow it happen as a form of protest, according to a new report.

The House GOP passed a funding bill this week, which was seen as a victory for Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), after he promised it would not touch Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security.

"The House of Representatives set up the one-two GOP punch by passing a bill to freeze spending at current levels until the end of September — while adjusting where money is allocated to prioritize Trump’s priorities, such as border enforcement. The House then promptly left town, leaving the mess for the Senate to sort out," CNN reported....
