Outrage grows after ICE tackles rape survivor after court hearing: 'This regime is evil'

Reactions were mounting on Monday as news surfaced about an incident involving two Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents who tackled a rape survivor to the ground just moments after she testified in a New Jersey courtroom.

David J. Bier, Cato Institute Director of Immigration Studies, shared an excerpt from an Atlantic report on X about an incident last year involving a woman who had survived rape and told her story in court about her perpetrator and ex-boyfriend, who she was seeking a restraining order against after he put her in a chokehold and sexually assaulted her, causing her to lose consciousness. When she stepped outside the courthouse, she was suddenly tackled to the ground by two plainclothes ICE officers.

Several public figures and prominent voices online spoke out in response. ...

'Nebulous fear' surrounds Trump enemy over her new book launch: report

As E. Jean Carroll prepares to release a book about her literal trials and tribulations with Donald Trump, writer Jessica Bennett with The Cut wrote of the "nebulous fear of what the president might do" once the tell-all hits store shelves.

"This is Trump. Your guess is as good as mine," said Carroll's publicist, while Carroll herself exclaimed, "Nobody knows!"

Fear of presidential reprisal after Trump won the 2024 election led Carroll and her editor to take precautions. They moved their conversations to an encrypted app, delivered proofs by hand, and required booksellers to sign Non Disclosure Agreements....

Trans man forced to undergo prison genital exams wins $275,000 settlement

Trans man forced to undergo prison genital exams wins $275,000 settlement

A trans man who sued the New York prison system for allegedly forcing him to undergo illegal genital examinations will receive $275,000 after the state agreed to settle his case.

In the days after the man entered a state-run women’s prison in 2020, staff inspected his genitals four times, he alleged in a lawsuit.

The man, identified as “John Smith” in court filings to protect his privacy, attempted to ward off several of the exams. Before his incarceration, Smith worked at an LGBTQ services organization where he learned that federal law prohibits jails and prisons from conducting exams solely to determine someone’s genital status, he told New York Focus and The Appeal in 2022. But prison staff placed him in an isolation cell for eight days until he acquiesced. A doctor then placed him in stirrups and penetrated him with a cotton swab.

The victim was 6 and 7 years old when her male classmate would enter the bathroom and crawl under her stall to molest her, the suit says. “Your mom isn’t going to be able to help you,” t......

Florida GOP chair dodges sexual assault charges but faces video voyeurism probe: report

Former Florida GOP Chair Christian Ziegler will not be charged with rape, but Sarasota Police have asked state's attorney general to look into allegations of video voyeurism, the Herald-Tribune reported.

Police decided not to file charges after they viewed a video Ziegler made of a sexual encounter.

"The video showed that the encounter was likely consensual," police said in a press release this Friday. "Therefore, detectives were unable to develop probable cause to charge Ziegler with Sexual Battery."...

A police recruit alleged she was sexually assaulted. Days later she lost her job.

A 21-year-old police recruit stood in the early morning winter darkness, unsure of what had just happened inside the Comfort Suites in Grand Chute, Wisconsin.

After a night of heavy drinking she awoke partially clothed in a hotel bathtub. Two male academy recruits — from Appleton and Sheboygan — were dousing her feet with cold water and slapping her awake. She dressed and fled the hotel room, but still felt too drunk to drive, so she phoned a trusted co-worker at the Grand Chute Police Department.

After the officer brought her to the police station, she described her ordeal and raised the possibility that she had been sexually assaulted. A DNA swab and blood test were taken at the hospital. She later told Wisconsin Watch she felt confused and still intoxicated during the initial interview.

“Some of the things that I told them — when I was reading the report — I didn’t even remember telling them,” she said. ...
