'Too dumb?' Trump ally Sidney Powell roasted by elections official for false fraud claim

Sidney Powell, a former Trump attorney who pleaded guilty in connection with attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Georgia, just got called out by an election official for spreading false claims of voter fraud associated with the upcoming contest in 2024.

Powell, often referred to as "the Kraken" because of her promise to unleash such a creature in her bid to keep Trump in power, on Friday posted what she purportedly thought was evidence of voter fraud efforts coming from Maricopa County, Arizona.

"HERE WE GO," she wrote, including what appears to be a long headline from a right-wing news site. "Maricopa County is Sending Phony Mail-In Ballots AGAIN for Presidential Preference Election - One Voter Receives TWO Ballots With Her Name, Another Receives Ballot for Fulton County, GA Resident."...

Jenna Ellis’ Georgia plea deal may not save her from disbarment

Like fellow co-defendants Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell, attorney Jenna Ellis is avoiding state prison by agreeing to a plea deal in Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis' RICO/election interference case against former President Donald Trump.

But for these lawyers, there may be non-criminal repercussions to admitting that they lied when they promoted Trump's false claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him.

Powell, for example, has been battling a defamation lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems. And Ellis, according to Law & Crime reporter Marisa Sarnoff, is a candidate for possible disbarment....

Trump lawyers file latest effort to get Georgia election case tossed

Donald Trump’s Georgia election interference case could be tossed if his lawyers’ newest tactic succeeds, court records show.

The former president’s legal team Monday filed a motion to dismiss Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ case, arguing Trump’s post-2020 election actions were protected by the First Amendment right to free speech.

"Every single alleged overt act listed and count charged against President Trump seeks to criminalize content-based, core political speech,” the lawyers wrote in Monday’s filing....

Trump lawyers in for a surprise at sentencing after half-baked apologies: ex-prosecutor

Two Trump lawyers who took plea agreements, Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro, could face a revocation or harshening of their plea deals — or at the very least, a reprimand from the court — over their unrepentant behavior, former federal prosecutor Shan Wu suggested on Friday's edition of MSNBC's "All In."

This comes after Powell and Chesebro, who were ordered to write apology letters as part of the terms of the deal for conspiring to overturn the 2020 election, wrote terse, one-line statements that barely apologized for anything.

"First of all, in your experience doing this kind of thing, is it common for someone on a plea to give such an obviously truculent F you to the entire proceedings in their apology?" asked anchor Chris Hayes....

Trump lawyers’ apology letters contain a 'wink and a nod' to election deniers: expert

Two terse apologies from Donald Trump lawyers who pleaded guilty to Georgia election interference charges served as a sly wink to conspiracy theorists who refuse to believe Joe Biden won the 2020 election, experts say.

Democratic strategist Fred Hicks told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Friday he was stunned by the cold, one-line apologies submitted to the Fulton County court by Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro.

“To me, these serve to further entrench beliefs of a mass conspiracy,” Hicks reportedly said of the letters, which he dubbed “a wink and a nod to the election deniers.”...
