'People all over America are devastated': MAGA rep mocked for floating herself for top job

'People all over America are devastated': MAGA rep mocked for floating herself for top job

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) was mocked on Saturday for suggesting that 'so many people' had floated her name for Speaker of the House — and replace House Speaker Mike Johnson.

The MAGA lawmaker posted on X that she was "honored" to be considered, though the internet quickly questioned why she made the comment.

"Truly, it is wonderful and I am flattered to have that type of support and trust," Luna wrote. "However, I do not know where the rumor started that I was considering a run, as I have never spoken to any member about it or considered even running for Speaker. For now, I feel that I am right where I need to be. At any rate, I love and appreciate all of you and will continue to fight for all of you in DC. @SpeakerJohnson, hopefully your cortisol levels didn’t spike too high."...

Speaker 'barely holding it together' and 'crushed by his workload': NYT

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) made several revealing admissions about the stressful and chaotic nature of his job, according to a recent New York Times report.

The Times' Annie Karni wrote in a Wednesday article that Johnson turned what was meant to be an easy interview with a friendly podcast host into a spotlight on how he's handling the pressure of being second in the presidential line of succession. While sitting alongside his wife in an appearance on the Katie Miller Pod (hosted by the wife of White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller), Karni observed that Johnson gave unusually detailed answers to softball questions.

"Sitting together in the speaker’s office, the Johnsons appear perfectly practiced and coifed. Ms. Johnson’s bright orange lipstick exactly matched her suit and her shoes. The two know how to do this; they used to co-host a podcast about religion and politics," Karni wrote. "But they both revealed in their conversation with Ms. Miller that they are barely holding it together."...

'Whoa!' Accusation that Mike Johnson complicit in Epstein coverup shocks conservative

The Bulwark's Bill Kristol wrote Thursday that House Speaker Mike Johnson and House Republicans were complicit in an "Orwellian" cover-up to protect powerful people involved in the Epstein scandal.

Kristol quoted Johnson telling CNN's Jake Tapper, "I want everything to come out about the Epstein evils. . . . I’m pushing aggressively for the full release of everything that is possible, and, by the way, so is the president. We’re using every mechanism within our power to do that, and to do it as quickly as possible."

And yet, Kristol wrote, Johnson "panicked" and "recessed the House in order to avoid a floor vote on a resolution calling for the release of the files."...

Mike Johnson shuts down House until September to block Epstein vote: NYT

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said he's shutting down the House of Representatives until September to stave off a vote that could compel the Trump administration to release the files on sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

Johnson announced Tuesday that he would put an end to voting on Wednesday night "in what he called an effort to avoid 'political games' related to the Justice Department's handling of the files," the Times reported.

Johnson's announcement came "just after" the House Oversight Committee voted to subpoena Epstein's former partner Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking....

'A lie!' Speaker slams Dems as he claims 'zero' plan to cut Social Security and Medicaid

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) slammed Democrats for "lying" about the House Republicans' funding bill that he claimed will pass the House on Tuesday.

In a press conference from Capitol Hill Tuesday morning, Johnson declared "we'll have the votes" to pass the funding bill and avert a government shutdown.

Johnson accused the Democrats of concocting a smear campaign against the GOP's continuing resolution. ...

'I'm, uh –– yeah': GOP's Emmer ignores Trump's attacks on him during ABC interview

'I'm, uh –– yeah': GOP's Emmer ignores Trump's attacks on him during ABC interview

Majority Whip Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) graciously declared that he and President-elect Donald Trump were on "very good terms" after ABC's Jonathan Karl confronted him with a nasty quote about being a Republican In Name Only, or RINO.

"So, let me ask you, your relationship with Trump," Karl began on Sunday's This Week with George Stephanopoulos. "I remember when Kevin McCarthy was ousted as speaker, you were nominated to replace him, and Donald Trump — you probably remember this, but let me remind you just in case — posted on Truth Social, 'I have many wonderful friends wanting to be Speaker of the House and some are truly great warriors. RINO Tom Emmer, who I do not know well, is not one of them...He is totally out-of-touch with Republican voters...' Now, to be fair, that was more than a year ago. I assume you've gotten to know Trump a little bit better?"

Emmer responded, "The president and I are on very good terms. I'm, uh — yeah. The president has been wonderful to me, been wonderful to my wife, has done everything that he could to campaign in Minnesota. He's been amazing, and yeah, we're going to do some good work together. But it's Donald J. Trump's agenda. My job is to make sure that we execute."...
