PHILADELPHIA — In May 1883, in the Lamokin Woods in Chester, a group of Black women strode down a hill. Leading them was Ella Harris, who wore a fashionable pink calico dress and a white jockey cap. She hoisted a baseball bat over one shoulder. The red ribbon pinned to her dress distinguished her as the captain of the Philadelphia Dolly Vardens, a baseball team fully composed of Black women. Her team wasn’t alone in the woods; a large crowd of people of all ages and races had gathered, awaiting the game that had been announced the day before. “The thought of seeing a match between girls offere......

Kanye West seemingly hoped to upstage Taylor Swift and reignite their age-old feud at last weekend’s Super Bowl — but the “Anti-Hero” singer reportedly thwarted his alleged plans. The newly minted 14-time Grammy winner, 34, allegedly got the embattled “Heartless” rapper, 46, booted from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas after learning he’d purchased seats in front of her suite for the showdown between Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers. “Typical Kanye. O.J. Simpson paid tribute to actor Carl Weathers following the news of Weather's death at age 76 on Friday, though unsurprisingly, condolences from one of the most famous double-murder defendants were taken with a grain of salt. “I first met Carl on the football field. I think I was a rookie and we were playing in Oakland and it was during warmups,” Simpson recalled in a video on X. Weathers, who famously played Heavyweight champion Apollo Creed in the “Rocky” franchise, first began a career in the NFL before pivoting to acting. “He ran up to me, I guess he was playing linebacker for the Raide......
