'Clearly ludicrous': Ex-GOP congressman torches Trump's defense of D.C. arch

Former Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger ripped into President Donald Trump's claim that the triumphal arch has a national security purpose.

On Friday, Kinzinger appeared on CNN to discuss Trump's claim that the arch will house snipers on its roof, giving it a national security purpose. Kinzinger, a veteran, said the idea is obviously far-fetched.

"It's clearly ludicrous, and I think everybody knows that," Kinzinger said. "It's almost like whenever this president says things, we just kind of wink because we know it's not serious."...

Trump arch will harm several dozen historic sites — but admin refuses to move it: report

The Trump administration admitted his planned 250-foot arch near Arlington National Cemetery will harm historic sites but insisted the project move forward.

The National Park Service conceded that the monument would adversely affect the cemetery, the Lincoln Memorial, and several dozen other historic sites, according to a document obtained by the Washington Post. Officials wrote that the "adverse effects cannot be fully avoided," but argued the arch could not be built anywhere else, The Post reported.

"The administration is being very transparent in their overt hostility to public input and the regulatory process and the result will be to permanently disfigure one of the nation's most revered and richly symbolic cultural landscapes," Charles Birnbaum, the founder of the Cultural Landscape Foundation, said in a statement....

Judge puts a tripwire on Trump's arch as he races to build before anyone can stop him

A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to provide 48 hours' notice before it begins working on President Donald Trump's arch.

According to a post by Politico legal reporter Kyle Cheney, Judge Tanya Chutkan ordered advance notice to her court before any work begins on the arch. She handed down the order as she prepared to consider a motion for a temporary restraining order to stop construction on the arch.

The order for advance notice also comes after the Supreme Court allowed Trump's East Wing ballroom to finish and amid challenges to his D.C. golf course. Politico legal reporter Josh Gerstein noted in a Friday report that Trump is employing a legal "tush push" to get his projects most of the way through construction before they can be challenged in court, with the thought being that courts can't stop the Trump administration from building what's already been built....

Trump's triumphal arch near Reagan National slapped with red warning lights: report

Trump's "triumphal arch" will need to have red lights on top of it after a review of its design alarmed a federal agency, according to reporting by the New York Times.

The 259-foot-tall arch will be less than a mile from the Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., leading the Federal Aviation Administration to recommend red, blinking lights to be added on top, the Times reported.

The FAA identified the arch as an "obstruction," but noted it would have "no significant adverse effect on airspace" in a feasibility study released on Friday, ahead of a formal evaluation, according to the Times....
