Some of President Donald Trump's most loyal supporters are no longer rushing to his defense, according to a veteran Democratic pollster who said he watched it happen in real time.

Cornell Belcher, who polled for Barack Obama's campaigns and for the Democratic National Committee under Howard Dean, described the scene on the Lincoln Project's "The Elephant in the Room" polling show. He said he recently conducted focus groups out West that included Trump supporters, and that when criticism of the president came up, they didn't push back the way they always had before.

"This is something that I've been doing for several years, and I've never seen this happen before," Belcher said....

An ex-GOP operative flagged how Trump is killing what he once touted as his "best" deal at the expense of his supporters.

During an episode of The Bulwark Podcast, Tim Miller described Trump's plans concerning the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, which Trump negotiated and boasted about during his first term.

"The Trump administration decided not to renew the USMCA," Miller noted. "Which is pretty interesting because Donald Trump said that was the best agreement we've ever made, the best trade deal of all time."...

President Donald Trump is now asking his supporters to donate money by implying Democrats could steal future "tariff rebate checks" and give them to undocumented immigrants.

Liberal group Meidas Touch initially reported on the email, which told supporters: "Here are 3 reasons I need YOU to STOP THE BOIL NOW BEFORE MY END-OF-YEAR FUNDRAISING DEADLINE." The email went on to suggest that Trump wanted to send $2,000 checks to "workers" using revenue generated from his tariffs, though he claimed Democrats planned to "send your check to illegals if you don't respond in the next hour!"

The solicitation warned that control of the House and Senate were both on the line, and that supporters' money was needed for "STOPPING COMMUNISM," using Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani (D) as examples. The email made no mention of Trump's public embrace of Mamdani in the Oval Office last month....

The Coast Guard stationed a helicopter at Yaquina Bay, Ore., after a fishing boat capsized in 1985, killing three people because rescue aircraft were too far away to respond fast enough. When the Obama administration tried to move the helicopter to North Bend in 2014 local residents sued and Congress intervened to force the Coast Guard to provide ample notice and research to support any relocation of the helicopter — even for maintenance.

So, when rumors spread a few weeks ago that the helicopter was gone, many fishermen dismissed them, reports the New York Times, primarily because the very idea was ridiculous. Response times from the alternative landing site in North Bend can take up to an hour or longer.

“It’s mind-boggling that the decision was made to move this helicopter, but it’s just as mind-boggling that nobody bothered to talk to us about it,” said Taunette Dixon, a leader of the nonprofit Newport Fishermen’s Wives. “I don’t understand why the approach has to be adversarial here.”...
