Jim Acosta spots Trump flags coming down in MAGA country: 'I'm feeling a vibe shift'

Former CNN anchor Jim Acosta says he's noticing fewer flags bearing President Donald Trump's name across rural Virginia, which he said signals a "vibe shift."

During a Thursday episode of "The Jim Acosta Show," Acosta told Beth Macy, a Democratic congressional candidate from the region, that she has a real chance to take over a GOP seat based on what he's seeing. Macy is running to unseat Rep. Ben Cline (R-VA).

"Something culturally is changing in that part of Virginia in rural Virginia," Acosta said. "I'm not seeing as many Trump flags as I used to. I used to see them all the time driving around."...

'Absolutely wild' footage of ICE confronting driver sparks outrage: 'Out of control'

Another video of civilians confronted by federal immigration agents is drawing online outrage amid President Donald Trump's crackdown.

On Tuesday, footage circulated on social media showing masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents shouting and pointing a gun at an unarmed woman in Falls Church, Virginia. Critics, including members of Congress, reacted with harsh condemnation of how the Trump administration is using ICE.

According to Aaron Fritschner, the deputy chief of staff for Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA), ICE agents pulled a gun on "a U.S. citizen born and raised" in the Northern Virginia area. "Chillingly, they claimed she 'almost ran them over' until she told them she had video proving that was a lie," Fritschner wrote....

Republican lambasted in hometown paper after ‘vile’ out-of-state attack

A Republican was criticized for racist remarks in an opinion piece published by the GOP lawmaker's hometown paper and written by Virginia's Lt. Gov. Ghazala Hashmi Friday.

In her op-ed for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Hashmi, who is a Georgia native, called out Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) for his "vile, xenophobic, and anti-Muslim attack on his X social media account targeting Virginia state Sen. Saddam Salim, D-District 37. Rhetoric such as Clyde’s is never harmless; it perpetuates violence, scapegoats entire communities and is antithetical to the core principles of our democracy."

Clyde wrote the following on May 15: "Saddam Azlan Salim, who immigrated from Bangladesh, authored Virginia’s new unconstitutional gun ban. Attempting to naturalize those who hold beliefs that are incompatible with our Constitution is a recipe for disaster—in this case, disarmament. Denaturalize. Deport. Defend 2A."...

Republicans upset by gerrymandering have their own words hurled back at them

Republicans upset by gerrymandering have their own words hurled back at them

Republicans have been doing 180s to defend their position on redistricting, undermining their insistence that they're guided by moral arguments, according to a new report.

The Bulwark highlighted a series of "pirouettes" by GOP leaders by comparing their statements on gerrymandering in Texas last year to what they said on the issue in the wake of Virginia voters paving the way for more Democratic seats.

GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson was in support of partisan redistricting in Texas last year, the Bulwark noted. ...

Trump's new 'secret weapon' to 'salvage midterms' already tanked: expert

President Donald Trump's new plan to salvage the midterm elections has already collapsed, according to a political analyst.

Legal expert Michael Popok outlined how Trump's attempt to draft in James Blair, the White House Deputy Chief of Staff, has already gone wrong. A recent meeting at the Waldorf Astoria leaked, revealing that just a day before Virginia voted to redistrict in favor of the Democratic Party, Trump's team believed there was nothing to worry about.

Virginia Democrats achieved a major victory in April 2026 when voters approved an aggressive redistricting measure designed to gain four additional House seats. The ballot measure passed with approximately 51% support, or more than 1.5 million voters, fundamentally reshaping the state's congressional landscape....

John Roberts' landmark 2019 decision just backfired spectacularly on GOP: legal analysts

Chief Justice John Roberts paved the way for a major Democratic victory this week with a decision he made at the end of the last decade, political analysts are pointing out.

Justice Roberts delivered a key decision in the 2019 case Rucho v. Common Cause. Roberts siding with conservatives on a 5-4 decision seven years ago kept constitutional limits away from partisan gerrymandering. Dahlia Lithwick and Mark Joseph Stern, co-hosts of the Slate legal analysis podcast Amicus, revisited Roberts' decision in their latest episode and explained how the case gave way to a major Democratic victory in Virginia this week, where voters approved a gerrymandered map that opens four House seats.

"There was a lot of Republican bellyaching this week over these results," Lithwick said. "But didn’t the Supreme Court pretty much roll out the red carpet for this kind of electoral hardball with the decision in Rucho v. Common Cause?"...
