Trump threatens to sue reporters who revealed that he's paying witnesses

Former President Donald Trump's legal team is threatening litigation against the nonprofit investigative outlet ProPublica, for a story published at the start of this month alleging his business and campaign are paying "significant financial benefits" to witnesses in cases against him.

ProPublica revealed the threat against them in a post on X Wednesday.

"Trump’s attorney sent ProPublica a cease-and-desist letter demanding this article not be published. It warned that if the outlet and its reporters 'continue their reckless campaign of defamation, President Trump will evaluate all legal remedies,'" stated the post....

Internet roasts 'banana brain' Trump for blaming his own lawyer's failure on prosecutors

The jury has begun deliberating in Donald Trump's criminal case in Manhattan, and — as he has done most days of the trial — the former president ended the day by raging to reporters outside the courthouse about how unfair the whole process has been. But this time, he raised a novel complaint: there were tons of witnesses who could have exonerated him who were never called to testify.

"A lot of key witnesses were not called," said Trump. "Look at the list. Look at the players. And you know who I'm talking about, you can take five or six of them. Why didn't they call those witnesses? They didn't call them because they would have been on our side."

This comment earned immediate mockery from commenters on social media, who pointed out that Trump had a right to call those witnesses himself, and called barely anyone, aside from the former legal adviser to Michael Cohen, which backfired on him, and legal analyst Daniel Sitko....

Trump's attacks 'finally have real consequences' as judge penalizes him beyond a fine

Donald Trump is used to getting away with rule violations, even in a court setting, but those days are over, according to a former prosecutor.

Trump spent Thursday in court for jury selection in the former president's upcoming trial for allegations that he broke the law when he purportedly made hush money payments to hide an affair with an adult film star ahead of the 2016 election, and then covered it up by disguising the payment in his financial records.

At the end of the day in court, there was a situation in which the judge sided with prosecutors on an issue involving divulging the information of upcoming witnesses....

'Meant to incite anger': Expert shows how Trump attacks witnesses with coded messages

Former President Donald Trump is doing his best to manipulate, intimidate, and scare away witnesses in the leadup to his federal 2020 election charges going to trial, argued former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti on Friday.

This comes as a federal appeals court upheld the gag order placed upon Trump by Judge Tanya Chutkan.

"I think this is a court masterfully dealing with the defendant, who is so unique," said Mariotti, speaking on MSNBC. "Here's a defendant who can actually send a message directly to a witness just by, you know 'truthing,' I guess, not tweeting anymore. But if Trump had made these statements directly to witnesses, of course he would run afoul of any gag order. Any court would essentially revoke his bond."...

'Seems unimaginable': Trump slammed by legal expert for actions against would-be witnesses

Former Mueller investigation prosecutor Andrew Weissman walked through how a mob trial works — and the lessons applicable from that to the cases against former President Donald Trump — in an interview on Tuesday's edition of MSNBC's "The Beat."

This comes as the former president faces four separate criminal trials, at least three of which could have significant witness testimony from members of his inner circle, particularly the Georgia election racketeering case.

"Talking about the link between John Gotti and Donald Trump," said anchor Ari Melber, himself an attorney. "Explain to us what you do as a prosecutor if you have someone like Donald Trump, it is a defendant and he is attacking witnesses and has been gagged over that partially. 'I Forgotti' is a memorable time where witness tampering appeared to work."...
