A Republican women’s group has been unmasked as the force behind a wave of mysterious transgender-themed mailers sent to Texas voters ahead of the midterms, sparking fury and accusations that it tried to “manipulate an election.”
“A wicked thing to do. Targeting vulnerable kids,” wrote Christian author Daniel Darling Thursday night in a social media post on X.
Earlier this month, a series of seemingly pro-transgender mailers was sent to Texas homes using branding similar to the Transgender Education Network of Texas. The group, however, said it had nothing to do with the mailers, which included information for minors on how to petition for emancipation or seek “gender affirming care” out of state.
Critics immediately suspected the mailers to be a GOP-led midterm operation, and those suspicions were confirmed Thursday by the Houston Chronicle, which reported that the Republican Women’s Caucus Fund was responsible for the scheme.
“This should be a crime,” argued Dennis Porter, CEO of the cryptocurrency lobbying organization Satoshi Action Fund.
“It’s been verified that a Republican group literally created a FAKE transgender student organization and sent propaganda to millions of Texas families in an attempt to manipulate an election. Absolutely deranged behavior.”
News of the mailers reached Vice President JD Vance on Thursday when, during a town hall, a Texas woman identified as Rebekah Smith brought the matter to the vice president’s attention. Vance asked the woman to speak with his staff after the town hall, telling the woman, “I’d like the Department of Justice to investigate that.”
No mention was made during the town hall that the mailers were sent by a Republican organization.
“These [people] spent the last couple years taking away healthcare & rights of trans people & accused trans people of essentially a conspiracy to corrupt their children. When they didn’t find evidence of that happening, they secretly did it themselves. Psychotic,” wrote Maria Bruno, an Ohio-based attorney and civil rights advocate.
