Trump's history of 'playing with fire' now 'coming back to bite': CNN analyst

President Donald Trump's history of "playing with fire" when it comes to conspiracy theories appears to be "coming back to bite" after MAGA began questioning one of the president's signature narratives, according to one analyst.

During the 2024 campaign, Trump survived an assassination attempt during a campaign stop in Butler, Pennsylvania. The event produced images of Trump surrounded by Secret Service agents on stage with a bloodied ear, raising his fist, which have been recycled throughout Trump's second administration. MAGA has since begun to question that as Trump continues to erode trust with his base of supporters.

Trump's 'counterproductive' chaos turbocharging resistance in his own base: analysis

President Donald Trump's "counterproductive" policies regarding immigration and global trade have turbocharged resistance against his administration in rural America, according to a new analysis.

Bob Davis, co-author of a book on Trump's trade policies with China, argued in a new guest essay for The New York Times that Trump's push to deport illegal immigrants and upend trade relations with China has caused severe economic harm to rural cities like Hickory, North Carolina. In turn, local advocates say there is growing resistance to the Trump administration among youth, a demographic that Trump did well with in the 2024 election.
