Trump snaps at Biden and 'crooked judges and prosecutors' in post-convention meltdown

Now that the Republican National Convention — with its promise of "unity" is in the rearview mirror, — Donald Trump is back to being the Donald Trump of old with a rambling rant on Saturday morning.

Just days after cable TV pundits lauded the former president for being humbled and changed after the attempt on his life just a week ago, the former president once again lashed out about his legal problems and accused the Biden administration of conspiring against him.

J.D. Vance busted for attempt to hide 'dirty secret' from voters

Appearing on MSNBC's "The Weekend" on Saturday morning, MSNBC host Katie Phang blasted newly anointed 2024 Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. J. D. Vance (R-OH) for treating voters like they are "dumb" in his Republican National Convention acceptance speech.

Speaking with the hosts, Phang said Vance has done all he can to downplay not only the approach a second Trump administration would take on abortion but also plans to implement the controversial Project 2025.

That, she pointed out, is the GOP's "dirty secret."

" J.D. Vance is a type of person that we all know who puts on whatever masks that fits at the time," Phang began. "Nobody talks about abortion at the RNC; they pretend like it's this dirty secret but we all know about it. And we are not dumb."

"That is one of the sins of the party to underestimate the intelligence of the American voter. Just because you don't talk about it, although you kind of allude to it in the platform, it doesn't mean that we are not aware that J.D. Vance not two years ago said I want a national abortion ban," she continued. "So now he pivots, which is a J.D. Vance thing to do, and says, whatever the head of our party Donald Trump wants is okay, but that is the problem. Donald Trump is not consistent when it comes to abortion positions."

"Now the thing that really troubles me is the fact that we know Project 2025 is the blueprint for the next Trump administration and Project 2025 makes it clear they are going to go as far as not even allowing things like abortion medication to be sent in the mail," she added. "They're going to pursue a national abortion ban. So I think it is important for people to always remember what the base means."

"We have seen pro-life advocates who are mad that the GOP is not including in their platform an explicit national ban but we note once they are in the office, that is what they will do. They will try to put their heel on more Americans," she warned.

'Painfully small' turnout for MTG book signing as MAGA fans give her the cold shoulder

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) may be a go-to for reporters looking for a juicy quote as they cover the run-up to the 2024 election but her star has fallen when it comes to the MAGA hordes who once adored her.

On the same day that Donald Trump was making his acceptance speech at the recently concluded Republican National Convention before a packed hall, the controversial Georgia Republican scheduled a book signing for her book, simply titled "MTG," hours before and found few takers leading her to quickly scurry away.

Revered minister slams GOP 'unity' lie

Bishop William Barber, co-chair of the Poor People’s Campaign, joins us as the Republican National Convention wraps up in Milwaukee. On the final night, Donald Trump’s invective-filled speech, coming just days after the attempt on his life, was promoted as an address about unity. But Barber says it was only “a unity of rejection” on offer — rejecting the rights of women, immigrants, workers, poor people, disenfranchised voters and more. “They may have toned down their voices, but they did not tone down their extreme policies,” he says.

Not just Trump: Secret Service security failures go back years

With former President Donald Trump surviving the would-be assassination attempt at his rally in Pennsylvania last week, the focus has shifted to why the Secret Service was unable to defuse the situation before any shots were fired, given reporting indicates they were alerted beforehand of the gunman's presence, and given claims by aides to Trump that the agents who tackled him to the ground actually put him in more danger.

There's a pretty simple explanation for it though, reporter Carol Leonnig told MSNBC's Ayman Mohyeldin — a lack of preparedness that has triggered security breaches going back decades.

Bill Maher rips GOP’s 'demigod worship' of Trump

The Republican National Convention's conclusion with former President Donald Trump taking the stage to a crowd of adoring fans wearing bandages on their ears in solidarity was a little too much for comedian Bill Maher.

In summarizing the HBO host's weekly "new rules" segment, the Daily Beast described Maher as "sick of the latest wave of religious fervor around the ex-president. Maher noted that while he was personally grateful the shooter at Trump's Pennsylvania rally last week didn't hit his target, the assassination attempt nonetheless brought out "an orgy of magical thinking."

A FOX 13/Insider Advantage poll of 800 Floridians between July 15 and July 16 found that 47% of female respondents preferred Biden, while 44% preferred Trump.

J.D. Vance mocked over Lord of the Rings-themed cover: 'Thought Sauron was the good guy'

Politico's magazine cover mishmash of new Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance and "little known" fantasy epic "The Lord of the Rings" led to tough questions on the internet, with some asking whether it was satirical, and others pointedly remarking that Saruman wasn't a "role model."

Politico Magazine's cover of "How Lord of the Rings Shaped J.D. Vance's Politics" includes a graphic of the staff-wielding Ohio senator wearing a wizard hat and blowing smoke rings with a pipe. Vance wears a ring on his finger and stands in a suit and blue tie in front of the mythical Misty Mountains and the "eye of Sauron."
