Trump insiders worried supporters may skip voting because victory is assured

Feeling the need to crush Donald Trump's opponents competing for the 2024 Republican party presidential nomination as soon as the primaries begin, the former president and his aides are working overtime in New Hampshire due to inroads being made by former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley.

According to a report from CNN, there are fears in the Trump camp that the recent endorsement of Haley by popular Gov. Chris Sununu (R) could cut into the former president's lead so an all-out effort is being made to firm up his support.

On the other hand, the report notes, Trump's massive lead in polls has Trump insiders worried for a different reason.

CNN is reporting, "The burst of campaigning underscores an aggressive effort by Trump’s team to maintain his dominating lead when polls give way to actual voting. His advisers have privately voiced concerns that Trump supporters could simply assume he has a comfortable advantage in the race and is not reliant on their votes."

Those concerns led the former president to tell a crowd at an Iowa rally this past week, "We are leading by a lot, but you have to go out and vote.”

The report adds that Trump is trying to diminish Haley's growing support, telling the crowd, "There’s no surge. They don’t have any surge."

How Louis DeJoy could 'destroy the postal service'

US Postal Service (USPS) employees are sounding the alarm over postmaster general Louis DeJoy's 10-year plan to gut the agency, saying it will put people out of work and delay mail service for millions of Americans.

According to the Guardian, DeJoy — whom then-President Donald Trump appointed to head the USPS in 2020 — is in the midst of enacting a 10-year plan to consolidate mail sorting facilities dubbed "Delivering for America," which he claims will reduce costs. As of December 2023, there are currently 30 mail processing facilities that are being considered for consolidation, which the Guardian estimates could cost 25 jobs per consolidation. DeJoy is ultimately aiming to consolidate approximately 400 over the course of the strategic plan.

Kevin McCarthy's 'sold his soul' and it will haunt him forever: Jen Psaki

With former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy stepping down from his seat in Congress representing his California district at the end of the year, former White House press secretary and current MSNBC host Jen Psaki claims he will be most remembered for "selling his soul" and not any legislative accomplishments.

In her column for MSNBC, Psaki wrote that McCarthy tried to satisfy every faction within his caucus while at the same time toeing the line with Donald Trump and that was unsustainable.

More to the point, she noted, every move he made was about amassing power and that came back to bite him when his own caucus helped oust him — which will be his legacy.

"Why was he doing all of this? Well, because he was desperate to hold on to power. He wanted to be the leader of the Republican House, and eventually the speaker," she wrote before adding, "At the end of all of that, his soul-selling did get him the job. But it took an embarrassing 15 rounds of votes, and he was only able to hold on to it for 269 days."
