D.C. court sets tight appeal deadline in effort to keep Trump trial on track

The District of Columbia court clerk set a deadline for later this month for filing key paperwork in Donald Trump's effort to halt his prosecution.

As part of a deep dive into what to expect in the 2024 presidential election, one noted Democratic strategist claimed the outcome between presumptive nominees Donald Trump and President Joe Biden could hinge on just 400,000 voters.

'Confused and unlawful': Trump allies accused of pushing sketchy data to sow 2024 chaos

Donald Trump's allies are developing new methods to potentially steal the 2024 election after removing a safeguard in several Republican-led states, according to a report.

Nine GOP-led states have withdrawn from the Electronic Registration Information Center, or ERIC, after Trump allies targeted the multi-state database with conspiracy theories, and prominent election denier Cleta Mitchell has played a central role in persuading them to move away from that bipartisan security effort and instead use an open-source EagleAI software, reported Rolling Stone.

Trump: 'We will win' New Jersey despite 2016 and 2020 blowouts

Former President Donald Trump made a bold prediction about winning a deep-blue state in next year's presidential election — even though he got positively blown out there on two previous occasions.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump crowed about his chances in the Garden State while announcing that Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) would be chairing his campaign there.

Black Panther case could be key to booting Trump off ballot: law professor

Despite a ruling in Colorado that found Donald Trump can remain on the 2024 ballot even though his actions on Jan. 6 effectively made him an insurrectionist, a law professor from the University of Notre Dame has filed a legal brief citing past cases that blocked presidential candidates from the vote, Newsweek reported.

Derek T. Muller cited the 1968 case of former Black Panther leader Eldridge Cleaver who ran for president for the Peace and Freedom Party. California excluded Cleaver from the ballot because he was below the 35-year-old minimum age limit for the presidency — despite arguments that he would reach the age while in the post.

Trump re-election could lead to an 'epidemic' of killer stress: medical experts

According to medical researchers and experts consulted by the Atlantic's Jennifer Senior, the reelection of Donald Trump in 2024 could plunge the country into an unabated downward spiral of stress and anxiety with major mental and physical health implications.

Seeking answers about the "psychic toll" a second Trump term would have on the American public, Senior wrote that she personally descended into a state of panic during Trump's first term that seemed to have disappeared after Joe Biden became president, with the columnist writing, "Say what you want about Joe Biden: He’s allowed us to go days at a time without remembering he’s there."

Growing threat of political violence looms over 2024: former members of Congress

Former members of Congress are deeply concerned about political violence ahead of the 2024 presidential election, former Sen. Doug Jones of Alabama and former Rep. Barbara Comstock of Virginia said at a Thursday joint appearance sponsored by the liberal Center for American Progress and the nonpartisan McCain Institute.

Jones, a moderate Democrat who lost reelection in 2020, and Comstock, a moderate Republican who was defeated in 2018, said increased acceptance of political violence is seen across the political spectrum. But they laid much of the blame on former President Donald Trump and his supporters.

Trump lawyers 'afraid' of what he'll do when he takes the stand on Monday: legal expert

Reporting on Donald Trump's day in Judge Arthur Engoron's courtroom on Thursday, MSNBC legal analyst Lisa Rubin noted the former president is planning to take the stand on Monday and that his lawyers are not happy with that prospect.

Speaking with "Morning Joe" co-host Willie Geist, Rubin began by stating the $250 million financial trial is not going well for the former president who is facing the possible dissolution of his Trump Organization and his legal team fears he will make things worse if he takes the stand.

The legal analyst also said she gets the feeling that Trump's lawyers will endeavor to talk him out of taking the stand over the weekend.

"There's so much legal trouble surrounding Donald Trump, that people tend to lose track of it all," host Geist prompted his guest. "You're the eyes in the courtroom; as he takes the stand Monday, what does the case look like? How is it going for him right now?"

"I don't think it is going particularly well," Rubin laughed. "Let me resist your question to one extent: I'm not positive Donald Trump is going to testify. I can tell you, looking at you here, I know Donald Trump wants to testify but his lawyers desperately wanted to lift the gag order that's still in place. They weren't able to do so. They asked Judge Engoron to pause the trial, he would not do so."

"They told me to my face the day before they weren't going to ask him that because they knew how it was going to go," she reported. "That signals to me they are afraid of having their client on the stand and inches away from that principal law clerk he can't talk about when he testifies."

'It's horrible': RNC official furious over being stuck with Trump as the 2024 nominee

With Donald Trump pulling away in the polls and the first primaries on the horizon, some Republican National Committee members and GOP operatives are expressing dismay that he will be their 2024 nominee and will doom their chances of retaking the White House.

With no challenger appearing to be a serious threat to Trump's third consecutive run for the presidency, there are now worries the former president will wrap up the delegates needed for the nomination quickly only to have their nominee end up a convicted felon before the general election in November.

That has some GOP operatives worried the election will be a wipe-out.

In an interview with the Daily Beast's K Jake Lahut, an RNC operative admitted they were dreading being saddled with the embattled former president.

"People need to wake up before we end up with [Trump] as our candidate, because we’ll end up with Biden as our president," the RNC member and former presidential campaign adviser lamented.

They then added, "It’s horrible. Somehow he has us in in this hole, and for no good reason, either.”

Adding to that, there are concerns that any efforts by GOP insiders to deny Trump the nomination because of his legal problems could lead to violence from his supporters when the Republican Party convenes in Milwaukee for the nominating convention.

'Undercover': Reporter says Trump is looking for hidden MAGA agents in Biden admin

'Marjorie Taylor Greene just bribed Donald': Mary Trump warns of signals from wannabe V.P.

Donald Trump is being bribed by Marjorie Taylor Greene and Vivek Ramaswamy right before our eyes, and the media is missing it, the former president's own niece, Mary Trump, said on Thursday.

Ramaswamy said at the Alabama GOP debate that the Jan. 6 insurrection attempt was an "inside job," implying that it could perhaps be a false flag operation. This ignores, of course, that Trump was still president at the time when the event occurred.
