Trump's latest attack on E. Jean Carroll could land him with yet another lawsuit: expert
Former President Donald Trump has already been sued twice by advice columnist E. Jean Carroll, stemming from an alleged rape that occurred at a New York City department store in the late 1990s. Now, she could have cause to sue him a third time, Newsweek reported.
The issue stems from a new post the former president made to his Truth Social platform on Wednesday.
"I hope that Mayor Eric Adam’s [sic], Andrew Cuomo, and all of the others that got sued based on this ridiculous law where someone can be sued decades later, and with no proof, will fight it on being totally unfair and UNCONSTITUTIONAL," wrote Trump about a now-closed extension that let sexual abuse victims make claims outside of what would generally be the statute of limitations.
Carroll's complaint was filed using the extension, known as the New York Adult Survivors Act.
"I got sued, decades later (she has no idea when her made up event took place!), by a woman - I HAD NO IDEA WHO SHE WAS. It was a made up fairytale that was brought and funded by political operatives for purposes of Election Interference."
This is a reiteration of a claim that Trump was already sued over — that he doesn't know who Carroll was. A jury already found Trump liable for defamation, as well as sexual abuse under the New York Adult Survivors Act. Despite this, Trump repeated this claim during a CNN town hall shortly after, which led to Carroll suing him a second time.

Florida prosecutor Dave Aronberg told Newsweek he believes this "Truth" post is grounds for a third suit.
"Trump can be sued every time he defames her, through his speeches and written words," said Aronberg. "Each successive case becomes easier for Carroll's lawyers to win. Groundhog Day is becoming quite expensive for the former president."
Former federal prosecutor Barbara McQuade agreed. "The short answer is yes," she told Newsweek on whether Trump could be sued yet again.
"The jury has already found that Trump sexually assaulted E. Jean Carroll. Every time he denies it, he exposes himself to another claim for defamation. Perhaps he has calculated that any additional damages would be negligible in light of the $5 million he has already been ordered to pay."
