Will young Americans finally rock the vote?

By Jane Eisner

Twenty years ago, I published "Taking Back the Vote: Getting American Youth Involved in Our Democracy."

The book grew out of a personal passion: Once my oldest child was able to cast a ballot, I became fascinated with the potential and obstacles facing our youngest voters.

I delved into the lengthy and messy midcentury struggle to pass the 26th Amendment, extending the franchise to 18-year-olds.

Kristi Noem's vice presidential Trump selection chances now in political gravel pit

Puppy-killing South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem’s chances of getting Donald Trump’s vice presidential selection are now in a political gavel pit, numerous reports say.

How out of favor has she fallen?

At a big Trump fundraiser last night in Florida, he talked about possible veep choices and did not mention Noem.

She was originally supposed to be there, but wasn’t.

Ever since it was revealed that in her upcoming book Noem almost proudly wrote about shooting and killing a 14-month-old puppy — then triple downed on it after a bipartisan furor broke — her viability for being Trump’s pick has plummeted.

Columbia University protests look increasingly like those in 1968 as police storm campuses nationwide

In the following Q&A, Stefan Bradley, a history professor at Amherst College and author of the 2009 book, “Harlem vs. Columbia University: Black Student Power in the Late 1960s,” touches on the similarities and differences between the protests of the 1960s and now.

Inside Insurrectionist International Airport

By Clay Jones

Remember when nobody liked an butt-kisser?

Remember when the teacher’s pet was the least popular kid in school?

What happened?

This is straight-up cultist: A few Republicans in the House have introduced a bill to rename Dulles International Airport after Donald Trump.

I first saw this story on Monday but I didn’t get past the headline because it was April Fools’ Day and I underestimated just how sycophantic and pathetic Republicans have become.

The GOP Fiddles while Rome Burns

Trump’s retweet of a 2020 Dan Scavino tweet These are some of the latest headlines describing how our ally, Ukraine, continues to be mercilessly pounded by Russia as its air defense is “at the edge of its capacity,” while the GOP orchestra, led by maestro, wannabe emperor Trump, is hideously fiddling. • Russian forces conducted the second largest combined drone and missile strike of 2024 on the morning of February 7…Russia targeted Kyiv City during the February 7 strike for the third time thus far in 2024…. • International analysts say the onslaught of Russian missiles, stockpiled for months, ...

They asked the court to uphold the ruling by Colorado’s highest court that Trump engaged in an insurrection against the United States and, accordingly, should be disqualified from the presidential election under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. Trump “refused to accept ...

Trump said Obama is the current president during a New Hampshire campaign event

The pundit editorial class — as well as too many political reporters — focus on President Joe Biden’s age. What they don’t do is point out that Donald Trump is only 3.5 years younger. Nor do the New York Times, Wall Street Journal or Washington Post — or any TV news show — ever feature a quote from a Trump campaign event that’s more than a few words. That’s because after Trump strings words together, they look and sound like they were the output of a random number generator. At a campaign rally in Claremont, New Hampshire, Saturday afternoon, Trump said that Barack Obama was president. Not tha...

37,000 customers in WA and ID lose heat and hot water because someone did not call 811

The 12.5″ natural gas pipe was 41″ deep. Just as the Deepwater Horizon explosion in 2010 was not a “spill” (it was an explosion), the reason 37,000 customers in eastern Washington and northwestern Idaho have no heat or hot water and can’t cook meals is not a gas pipeline “leak.”

In each case, however, news organizations minimized the extent of the man-made disaster with weasel words.

How to deal with visual misinformation circulating in the Israel-Hamas war and other conflicts

By Paul Morrow, University of Dayton

In the three weeks since war began between Israel and Hamas, social media has been taken over with images and stories of attacks, many of which proved false.

For example, within hours of Hamas’ surprise attack on Oct. 7, 2023, screen grabs from a popular video game were shared by thousands of social media users as if depicting real scenes of violence against Israeli troops in Gaza.

Dr. Oz should be worried – voters punish ‘carpetbaggers,’ and new research shows why

A Fetterman campaign billboard on the New Jersey/Pennsylvania border.Fetterman campaign/Twitter Charles R. Hunt, Boise State University Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate race between Democrat John Fetterman and Republican Mehmet Oz has garnered a lot of media attention recently, thanks to the Fetterman campaign’s relentless trolling of his opponent, mainly for being a resident of neighboring New Jersey rather than the state he’s running to represent. Fetterman has run ad after ad using Oz’s own words to highlight his deep Jersey roots. His campaign started a petition to nominate Oz for the New Jersey...
