Oprah gives away free trips to Stewart rally
Oprah Winfrey appeared on The Daily Show Thursday and shocked Jon Stewart’s audience with a big surprise.
The daytime queen appeared via satellite on the Comedy Central show to announce that she was going to fly the audience to Washington, D.C., for Stewart’s “Rally to Restore Sanity,” taking place October 30.
“We need a bit more sanity in the world,” she said. “I wanted to show my support for you, Jon, and your audience, so here’s what I did. I had my staff sneak into your studio with a little gift.”
She told the audience to look under their seats, where they found red envelopes, which they opened.
“You’re going to the rally!” she yelled. “Now get out there and restore some sanity.”
According to JustJared.com, Winfrey’s gift includes paying for the audience members’ hotel rooms.
Last month, Arianna Huffington pledged free bus rides from New York City to the DC rally for everyone who wanted one.
Appearing on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” on Tuesday, Huffington told Stewart that anyone who arrives at her office in lower Manhattan on Oct. 30 can hitch a free ride on one of her buses.
She said her “promise” is to have as many buses as people to fill them.
An information sign-up list is on the website for The Huffington Post.
As a part of the same segment, Stewart announced that due to permit restrictions he would be combining his rally with Stephen Colbert’s “March to Keep Fear Alive.” The name of the new rally will be “The Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear.”
