Texas Governor Rick Perry is the favorite pick among Republican voters in Iowa, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports poll.
Republican Rep. Steve King of Iowa had taken issue with Perry's "strategic" decision to "step on" the Ames Straw Poll by announcing his presidency on the same day. Fox News host Mike Huckabee also predicted the move would upset Iowans, but Perry was the first choice for 29 percent of those surveyed.
Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN) and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney were nearly tied, with 18 percent of respondents favoring Bachmann and 17 percent favoring Romney.
Texas Congressman Ron Paul was the first pick for 14 percent. No other presidential candidate had more than 4 percent.
Only a month ago, Perry was in fourth place, behind Bachmann, Romney and Paul.
