Santorum aide: Obama has ‘radical Islamic policies’

Published

Alice Stewart, the press secretary for GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum, issued an apology Monday afternoon, claiming she misspoke when criticizing President Barack Obama’s environmental agenda by calling it “radical Islamic policies.”

Appearing on MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports, Stewart continued the Santorum campaign’s efforts to clarify his statements over the weekend that he wasn’t questioning Obama’s Christian faith.

“He wasn’t questioning the president’s character, he wasn’t questioning the president’s religion,” Stewart said. “As he said, as he has clarified the statement, he was talking about radical environmentalists. There is a type of theological secularism when it comes to the global warmists in this country. That’s what he was referring to. He was referring to the president’s polices in terms of the radical Islamic policies the president has, in specifically in terms of the energy exploration.”

Within an hour, Stewart told MSNBC that she had “misspoke” and meant to say “environmentalist policies” instead of “Islamic policies.”

On CNN Monday, Democratic Georgia Senate challenger Jon Ossoff tore into President Donald Trump and Republican Sen. David Perdue for their efforts to deny the franchise to Black voters in the state.

"What President Trump is trying to do to pressure election officials in Georgia, to throw out legitimate ballots is an attack on Black voters in Georgia," said Ossoff. "It is an attack on Black voters in Georgia. It was the power of Black turnout rejecting this president's racism and fearmongering and hateful politics. Black voters in Georgia standing up because the Black community here has been rocked by the pandemic and Black businesses in Georgia have been hit so hard, and they have not gotten any help from six months in Washington."

Trump is ‘terrified’ of losing power because he’ll lose relevance in American culture: NYT’s Tom Friedman

Published

on

On CNN Monday, New York Times columnist Tom Friedman broke down the reason why outgoing President Donald Trump is "terrified" of losing his office.

"Clearly, President Trump is going to attempt to stay in the headline as much as possible, and whatever network he ends up and doing whatever he's going to do on," said anchor Anderson Cooper. "Obviously Twitter and things like that, and maybe he'll start merchandising stuff and make paid speeches to people who admire him. He's going to do everything he can. Do you think that he'll be able to maintain the sort of grip he has on so many people, or out of office, he'll be like so many people on talk radio?"

As COVID-19 continues to surge all over the United States, many medical facilities are being overwhelmed with patients — and South Dakota resident Rose Mary Kor, who was diagnosed with COVID pneumonia, saw first-hand how bad the problem is when was told she would have to go to Wyoming for treatment.

Kor described her ordeal to CNN's Brooke Baldwin, saying, "They said, 'We're going to send you to Wyoming, and the two options are Gillette and Casper. We'll see who will take you.' And as it turned out, Wyoming Medical Center in Casper was the one. They could take me."

Baldwin, who was infected with COVID-19 back in April, noted that Kor was being asked to travel to another state when she was quite sick.
