FBI may probe House GOPer for illegal campaign contributions
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) may probe into whether Rep. Michael Grimm (R-NY) violated campaign rules by receiving illegal contributions while running for Congress in 2010, according to the Associated Press.
Grimm is facing allegations for receiving more in donations from Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto than allowed by law, with former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) indicating to Roll Call that Pinto informed Weiner of Grimm extorting him for money.
The Republican congressman released a statement, calling the allegations “”absurd” and “laughable,” claiming that Weiner made up his account with Pinto to the FBI.
Grimm defeated Democrat Michael McMahon 51 to 48 percent in 2010 to win his seat in Congress.
