Producer and actor Kevin Smith told CNN's Piers Morgan that Rick Santorum lost any chances of being elected when he declared he would fight against pornography.

"GOP candidates usually go to morals and stuff like that," Smith said. "They have to be smart enough to know that there are some things you can go after, some things you can't. My personal opinion: Santorum lost the moment he was like 'I'm going after pornography.' Cus for a lot of of us, its like 'buddy, it's all I've got. All I want to do is get home from work and look at some naked pictures.'"

"When the government tells you we might take away naked pictures, people get uptight. So I think he just kind of handed it over to Mitt Romney with that."

Santorum's campaign website says that “America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography” because the Obama administration favors “pornographers over children.”

In an undated statement on his official website, the former Pennsylvania senator promises that he will “vigorously” fight to make sure porn isn’t easily available in the U.S.
