President Barack Obama's chief political opponent got pranked on April Fool's Day this year, and not just pranked by anyone.

Appearing in Milwaukee on Sunday afternoon, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney (R) was prepared to address an affluent group of Republicans for a campaign brunch, but his staff warned that he may not get much of a turnout.

He and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) were both walking out into the dining room, with Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) taking to the public announcement system for an introduction, when Romney suddenly stopped cold.

The room was empty.

"Oh... These guys," Romney said, not quite laughing. "You guys are really bad."

"April Fools!" several of his staff members shouted.
