Projections by two Colorado television stations had state voters approving recreational marijuana use Tuesday night.
Opponents of the measure told KDVR they conceded defeat on the issue as of 11 pm EST Tuesday night, with support for the amendment garnering 53 percent of the vote with 37 percent of precincts reporting.
The issue also received some national attention when a former narcotics officer now serving with the Colorado Department of Revenue told 60 Minutes the medicinal marijuana industry accounted for “over a million square feet of lease space” in Denver.
A study by the Colorado Center on Law and Policy also said legalizing the drug could boost state revenue by about $24 million based on excise taxes alone.
