Trump is 'exhausting' GOP lawmakers and forcing them to 'kiss the ring' during Mar-a-Lago visits: report
During a panel discussion on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" one of the founders of Axios stated that he believes Donald Trump is sincere about running for president again in 2024 while one of the founders of Punchbowl News made the claim that Republican lawmakers just wish he would go away.
Speaking with co-host Willie Geist, Jim VandeHei said Trump would make a serious run, if for no other reason than he thrives on the attention and believes he has a base big enough to make 2016 happen again.
"He wants to lord over the Republican Party, but creating another party would be way too many resources and focus to pull off," he explained. "He does what you see today. He will try to find platforms, whether it's Fox News, Parler, whatever he ends up using with time to weigh in and heckle Republicans who have turned on him."
"My guess is he will endorse candidates to be a pain to the Republicans who are against him," he added. "Make no mistake, if he sits on the sidelines, does what he is doing, he probably gets stronger, not weaker, among Republicans as you drift away from January 6th, and if he were to decide to run, which I think he may run -- I know a lot of people think he won't -- but he is so addicted to the attention, being in the game, knows he has this massive base of support. I would not be surprised at all if he runs again. He knows it gives him the power of us talking about it and other people talking about it."
Chiming in Anna Palmer of Punchbowl added, "Republican senators are tired, exhausted of answering for every single tweet, every single thing that Donald Trump does. They are, 'are we talking about that again?'"
She added that the unfortunate reality for them is that they -- like House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy are forced to visit Mar-a-Lago and "kiss the ring" because they, "need him."
Two sources tell CNN that Trump "has been telling those in his inner circle he is angry with Kushner. Although these sources didn't give Trump's exact reasons for his displeasure, there are some signs that he blames Kushner for his humiliating loss in the 2020 presidential election.
Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) has filed a lawsuit against former President Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Rudy Giuliani, and Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) for their role in fomenting the January 6th Capitol riots.
CNN reports that the lawsuit "alleges Trump, Trump Jr., Giuliani and Brooks broke Washington, DC, laws, including an anti-terrorism act, by inciting the riot, and that they aided and abetted violent rioters and inflicted emotional distress on the members of Congress."
