Houston police said Thursday afternoon that shots were fired inside Terminal B at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

The shooter walked up to a ticketing area and fired two rounds into the air with an AR-15 assault rifle, police told KHOU.com. An air marshal reportedly returned fire but missed, at which point police say the man shot himself with a handgun.

The Houston coroner's office confirmed that one person died on the scene, according to MyFox Houston. An eyewitness account published to YouTube reported a total of four shots before the incident was over. A separate account confirmed that four shorts were fired, although bystanders did not know to flee until the third shot rang out.

The Federal Aviation Administration has temporarily grounded air traffic arriving in Houston while passengers in Terminal B are re-screened by security.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) is holding its national convention in Houston starting Friday.
