New York state's Adriondacks region was recovering on Monday after a storm dumped 3 feet of snow into the area over the weekend, the Associated Press reported.

A spokesperson for the Whiteface Mountain ski resort told the AP the 5,000-foot tall mountain was covered in powder following the deluge, which started Saturday but increased Sunday. A spokesperson for the National Weather Service said to the AP that the snow was accompanied by strong winds.

The Whiteface Veteran's Memorial Highway, which rolls through the backside of the mountain, had to be closed. The freak snowfall on the mountain, which stands along the border between New York and Vermont was part of a larger pattern of turbulent weather in the region.

WPTZ-TV reported on Monday that the Vermont Emergency Management office closed another highway, state route 5, while issuing flood warnings for the Barton and Connecticut rivers after heavy rainfall.
