Environmental activist Erin Brockovich was hit with a drunken boating charge in Nevada on Sunday, according to published reports.
Brockovich, once portrayed by actress Julia Roberts in a film about her fight with Pacific Gas & Electric, caught the attention of police as she attempted to dock at the Las Vegas Boat Harbor, apparently suffering from a visible impairment.
Breath tests later showed she was operating the vehicle at roughly twice the legal blood-alcohol limit, a misdemeanor crime that carries no jail time. Brockovich was subsequently booked at the Clark County Detention Center and released on $1,000 bail.
In a prepared statement sent to USA Today on Sunday, the 52-year-old said she did not operate the boat in open waters and apologized for the incident.
"I take drunk driving very seriously, this was clearly a big mistake, I know better and I am very sorry," she said. "After a day in the sun and with nothing to eat it appears that a couple of drinks had a greater impact than I had realized."
