Colbert: NSA scandal means Statue of Liberty is ‘holding a boom mic’
On Wednesday night’s edition of “The Colbert Report,” host Stephen Colbert took a moment out of his special Paul McCartney broadcast to discuss the ongoing NSA revelations and growing outrage around the PRISM program.
First, Colbert pointed out that “millions of Americans whose privacy has been invaded were shocked to learn that anything on the Internet was ever private.”
Leaker and former NSA contractor Edward Snowden has lost his job, said Colbert, and that’s a shame in this job market. Especially considering that Snowden doesn’t have any references.
“He only has all of yours,” quipped Colbert.
Initially, Colbert said, he was outraged like many people to find out about PRISM, but then he found out that it “only targets foreigners.”
“Yeah,” said the host, flashing a photo of the Statue of Liberty. “Evidently that torch of freedom is only for Americans. For the rest of the world, she’s holding a boom mic.”
