Monday night on "Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell," comedian Janine Brito suggested we start celebrating colobus monkeys rather than Christopher Columbus.
Americans celebrate Columbus Day on the second Monday in October and many people falsely assume the Italian explorer discovered the present-day United States.
But Columbus never set foot in North America.
He also ordered the torture and mutilation of the native population, and ended up being arrested by Spanish authorities for his atrocities.
Brito observed that people still loved Columbus even though he was a "tyrannical imperialist scumbag."
Rather than honor this "genuine mass murdering sh*tbox" with his own holiday, Brito advised Americans to start celebrating the much cuter and similar sounding "colobus," a monkey which has not committed any crimes against humanity.
