Phil Robertson isn’t backing down.
The Duck Dynasty patriarch conducted Bible study with parishioners in White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ in his hometown of West Monroe, Louisiana on Sunday, telling congregants — and a reporter from Britain’s Daily Mail — that he was merely quoting from the Bible when comparing homosexuality with bestiality in the now-notorious GQ interview.
He led what the Mail described as a “defiant prayer,” saying, “I will not give or back off from my path because you conquered death, Father, so we are not worried about all the repercussions.”
During his sermon Sunday, Robertson said his statements were merely quoting from the Bible. “I am just reading what was written over 2000 years ago<" he said before parishioners Sunday. "Those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom. All I did was quote from the scriptures, but they just didn't know it. Whether I said it, or they read it, what’s the difference? The sins are the same, humans haven’t changed. ... Jesus will take sins away, if you’re a homosexual he’ll take it away, if you’re an adulterer, if you’re a liar, what’s the difference? If you break one sin you may as well break them all." However, he denied that his statements were meant to be hurtful. "I love all men and women," he said. "I am a lover of humanity, not a hater."
