Republicans are too afraid of the mob they created to vote their conscience on impeachment: Senator
On Tuesday, 45 Republicans voted to dismiss the entire Senate impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump as unconstitutional — a blow to Democratic chances of gaining the 67 votes necessary to convict him.
On MSNBC, Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) suggested far more Republicans would be on board with trial and conviction — if not for fear of their own voters.
After delaying Trump impeachment trial, all but 5 GOP senators vote in favor of saying now it's too late
Despite widespread demands that the U.S. Senate hold former President Donald Trump accountable for helping to incite a deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol just before leaving office, all but five Republican senators on Tuesday voted to invalidate the trial as unconstitutional—a move that ultimately failed but portends poorly for those hoping for conviction.
"Convicting Donald Trump for inciting a white supremacist insurrection against the government of the United States should be a given."

Susan Collins and Tim Kaine are working to convince colleagues to censure Trump instead of ban from office: report
Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Tim Kaine (D-VA) are working behind the scenes to convince their colleagues that they should censure former President Donald Trump, Axios reported.
When former President Bill Clinton was impeached for lying under oath about a sexual relationship, the Senate refused to vote for removal and instead voted for censure in 1998. Now Kaine and Collins are trying to convince their colleagues that attempting to overthrow the 2020 election and leading a violent attack on the U.S. Capitol is worthy of the same censure that Clinton got.
