UPDATE: The Associated Press reported that the family of Elliot Rodgers confirmed Saturday that they believe their son was responsible for the shootings near the UC Santa Barbara campus on Friday night that killed six and injured seven more.
Attorney Alan Shifman spoke on behalf of Hunger Games assistant director Peter Rodgers, confirming that the family had been notified of their son’s death, although they have yet to be allowed to identify his body.
A 22-year-old California man who is believed to have shot six people dead on Friday before killing himself at University of California at Santa Barbara may have recorded an angry video message the day before the rampage.
In the 8-minute YouTube video, a man claiming to be shooter Elliot Rodgers — who TMZ has identified as the son of a unit director from the film The Hunger Games — said, “I’ll take great pleasure in slaughtering all of you.”
The man recorded the video from the driver’s seat of a black BMW like the one which was found wrecked at the scene of the shootings.
“This is my last video,” he said. “It all has come to this.”
“Tomorrow is the day of my retribution,” he explained. “Tomorrow is the day that I will have my revenge against humanity, against all of you.”
He went on to say that over the last eight years, “ever since I’ve hit puberty, I have been forced to endure an existence of loneliness, rejection, and unfulfilled desires, all because girls have never been attracted to me.”
He complained that women have given “their affection, sex, and love to other men, but never to me. I’m 22 years old and still a virgin. I’ve never even kissed a girl.”
“I don’t know why you girls have never been attracted to me,” he said, “but I will punish you all for it.”
“I don’t know what you don’t see in me, I mean, I’m the perfect guy,” Rodgers said. “And yet you throw yourselves at all these obnoxious men instead of me, the supreme gentleman.”
“I will punish all of you for it,” he repeated. “On the day of retribution, I will enter the hottest sorority house of UCSB and I will slaughter every single spoiled, stuck-up, blond slut I see inside there.”
On Friday afternoon, witnesses report that a black BMW sped through the town of Isla Vista near UCSB spraying bullets at pedestrians and other targets. Sheriff’s deputies intercepted the vehicle and returned fire.
When the BMW slammed into a parked car and came to a stop, officers found a man believed to be Rodgers slumped at the wheel, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. In addition to the six people he killed, the shooter injured seven others.
