Police in Baton Rouge, Louisiana arrested a 79-year-old man on Saturday for allegedly trying to set his longtime mistress on fire for revealing their affair, WAFB-TV reported.

The suspect, Carlos Garrido, is charged with attempted second-degree murder. He is being held on $75,000 bond.

WBRZ-TV reported that, according to police reports, Garrido poured "a flammable liquid" on the woman and tried to use a lighter to set her on fire.

The suspect also allegedly tackled the woman when she tried to avoid him. However, the woman got away and was able to reach someone who could notify the authorities.

Garrido allegedly "advised" police that he was trying to kill the woman for telling his wife about the affair, which they had been carrying on "for several years."
