Psychiatrist Dr. Keith Ablow, a member of the "Medical A-Team" at Fox News, asserted this week that transgender people had "bullied" Americans into "accepting things that are untrue."
After a Michigan woman recently outed a transgender woman for using the Planet Fitness locker room, the gym revoked her membership, saying that she violated a "no-judgement" policy.
"If you have male parts you don't need to be in the women's locker room. I don't care what you are; I don't care if you're gay lesbian, transgender or transvestite," Yvette Cormier explained to CNN. "I am uncomfortable with you as a male in my locker room, in my restroom."
Ablow argued on Tuesday that the gym had discriminated against Cormier because she had "feelings about this."
Cormier was "not settled on the fact that when somebody declares, 'I am of this gender,' but they are anatomically and genetically of another gender, people who see that individual have strong feelings," he insisted. "Like, I'm being viewed potentially while unclothed by someone who certainly looks to me to be of the opposite gender. They need to account for that too and not judge the folks who feel exposed."
According to Ablow, the subject was "tough to speak about because we're so politically correct now that we get tongue-tied."
"We can't say the obvious, which is, this is craziness," Ablow opined. "We are being bullied into accepting things that are untrue to our core feelings."
The Fox News psychiatrist wondered if his 12-year-old son could join a club for adults if he "sincerely believes that he's 18."
"You better believe he isn't," Ablow complained. "How about if somebody sincerely believes that they are of a different race, are they then going to be treated as a minority? Give me a break."
He concluded with some advice for Planet Fitness members: "Anybody who objects to the idea that they would be seen naked by member who seems to be of the opposite gender to them should quit their membership today. How's that?"
