At least one dead after train carrying GOP lawmakers slams into garbage truck: reports

At least one person is dead and two others are injured after a train carrying Republican lawmakers slammed into a garbage truck on Wednesday.

Although train passengers involved in the crash reported only minor injuries, one person who was in the garbage truck at the time of the crash has already died, while another is severely injured, according to an eyewitness account from Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-WI).

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), speaking to CNN via telephone, confirmed that at least one person in the truck died. He also said that two other people in the truck appeared to be "very badly injured." Flake said that the injured people were outside the truck when they were found, and suggested they were either ejected from the truck due to the crash or were already on the outside of the truck when the crash occurred.

Amtrak has released a statement that claimed there were no reported injuries to passengers on the train, although it made no mention of people who were sitting inside the truck.

"An Amtrak train came into contact with a vehicle that was on the tracks at 11:20 a.m. in Crozet, VA," Amtrak said. "There are no reported injuries to passengers or crew members."
