The former mayor of an Arkansas town has resigned from office after being arrested on felony sexual misconduct charges, KFSM News reported Wednesday.

Former Highfill Mayor Stacy Digby, 44, was arrested by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office on felony charges of sexual indecency with a child and first-degree sexual assault.

In addition to serving as mayor, Digby was a “lay leader” at Highfill United Methodist Church.

Digby allegedly had a years-long sexual relationship with a girl who is now only seventeen-years-old.

Residents reported seeing the girl sitting on Digby's lap at a local bowling alley and a Highfill police officer found the girl in the mayor's office after midnight, KFSM reported.

The former mayor is alleged to have sent the girl a picture of his genitals.

Last summer, Diby shot a 35-year-old woman in the stomach with a BB gun. No charges were filed in that case.

Highfill recorder/treasurer Stacie Williamson will serve as interim mayor.
