President Donald Trump privately brought up the idea of firing Attorney General Jeff Sessions in conversations with aides this past month — and his lawyers are the only people stopping him.

People familiar with the discussions told The Washington Post that the president's attorneys have convinced him not to fire the attorney general until special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation ends.

News of the president once again floating the concept of firing Sessions comes after reports that some Senate Republicans have resigned themselves to the attorney general being fired after the November midterm elections.
