Sarah Pitlyk, a former law clerk for disgraced Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, floundered during an interview with CNN's Brooke Baldwin as she tried to defend Kavanaugh's poor performance in front of the Senate Judicial committee.
Kavanaugh testified in front of the Senate Judicial committee to confront sexual assault allegations made by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.
During Thursday's hearing, Kavanaugh attacked Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) when she asked him about his excessive use of alcohol while in high school.
During Baldwin's Friday show, she played a clip of Kavanaugh rudely asking Klobuchar if she ever drank too much — even though moments before the senator shared that her father suffered from alcoholism.
"You're asking about a blackout. I don't know, have you?" Kavanaugh said during the hearing. "Could you answer the question, Judge?"
"What did you make of his answer?" Baldwin asked Pitlyk.
"I think his answer to that question, like many of his answers yesterday, pointed out that the judge is not a robot — he's a human being," Pitlyk said. "What was on trial yesterday was not his expertise or qualifications as a judge but his personal characteristics in such an invasive and intrusive way."
Pitlyk, who now works for a conservative public interest law firm added, "I think pretty much anyone would have reacted negatively to some of the questions that he was asked yesterday."
Baldwin said that even though Kavanaugh was under pressure he should not attack senators.
"Shouldn't he be held to a higher standard since they're talking about a lifetime appointment to U.S. Supreme Court?" Baldwin said.
