Hawaii Democrat Mazie Hirono blasts GOP ‘hell or high water’ rush to confirm accused sexual predator Kavanaugh

Published

on

At an event supporting Brett Kavanaugh accuser Christine Ford on Thursday, Hawaii Senator Mazie Hirono mercilessly attacked her Republican counterparts for rushing ‘hell or high water’ to confirm accused sexual predator Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Republicans on the Judiciary committee have steadfastly refused to ask the FBI to look into the claims of Dr. Ford, who says that when she was 15, Kavanaugh forced her onto a bed, tried to tear off her clothes, and held his hand over her mouth to prevent her from crying for help, as his friend looked on.

“We have not created an environment where women like Dr. Ford can come forward and be supported in a respectful way. That is not what is happening,” Hirono said. “What is happening with the judiciary committee is really, I would call it a railroad job. It’s totally unfair.”

Hirono outlined the David and Goliath scenario facing Ms. Ford, who was involuntarily outed as a sexual assault survivor. “You have the entire force of the presidency and all of the supporters of Judge Kavanaugh in the senate, arrayed on one side and on the other side, you have Dr. Ford who doesn’t even have the benefit of an FBI investigation as we all have called for,” Hirono said. “How unfair is that?”

As Ford’s fellow alumni unveiled a letter signed by 1,000 fellow classmates in her support, Hirono continued to blast Judiciary Republicans. She also begged the press for help.

“I’m counting on the members of the press to point out that this is a fast track,” she said. “They are totally intent on getting Judge Kavanaugh onto the Supreme Court come Hell or high water. Come Hell or high water.” Hirono also took a dig at the nominee himself asking, “why isn’t Judge Kavanaugh asking for an FBI investigation if he has nothing to hide?”

CNN host Jake Tapper concluded his extensive interview with Mike Pence on Sunday morning by playing audio of an interview Donald Trump recently gave where the president refused to endorse the vice president as the GOP candidate in 2024.

In the Fox News audio Trump is asked, "If Mike Pence runs for president in 2024, does he have your automatic endorsement?"

"Well, it is far too -- look, I love Mike, we're running again," Trump is heard replying. "But you're talking about a long time. So you can't put me in that position, but I certainly would give it very strong consideration."

Children in immigrant detention centers are reportedly going without basic supplies like soap and toothbrushes but Vice President Mike Pence insisted on Sunday that it's the fault of Congress.

During an interview on CNN, host Jake Tapper asked the vice president to "talk about the kids" who have been detained for crossing the border.

"Last week, legal advocates reported there are horrific conditions for children at the border," Tapper said, pointing to reports that say children have gone without soap, toothbrushes and other items needed for basic hygiene.

CNN’s Jake Tapper confronts Mike Pence with defense official calling Trump a liar over aborted Iran attack excuses

In a rare appearance on CNN's "State of the Union," Vice President Mike Pence was grilled by host Jake Tapper over Donald Trump's claim that the Pentagon was tardy with presenting him with casualty estimates regarding a military attack that was aborted at the last minute.

As Tapper asked Pence about the presidential claim, he noted that a Defense Department insider called the president's public pronouncement about why he allowed the military operation to proceed so far before aborting nonsensical.

"You said President Trump got that information late in the process and that confusing to me defense official I spoke to who said, any time military options are presented to the president, the potential casualty assessment, the battle assessment is one of the first things that the president would be told," Tapper began.
