Fox News legal analyst Andrew Napolitano said on Thursday that Republicans should issue a subpoena forcing Dr. Christine Blasey Ford to testify about her alleged sexual assault at the hands of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
“Should Judge Kavanaugh be responding to an accusation recounted in a newspaper?” Napolitano said during a segment on Fox & Friends. “Or should he be responding to the person who actually says he attempted to harm her. In the real world, it would only happen with the latter.”
“I have a suggestion, if I may, for [Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA)],” the legal analyst continued. “Subpoena her!”
“Whoa!” Fox News host Steve Doocy exclaimed.
“She decided to go the press, maybe reluctantly,” Napolitano opined. “She voluntarily spoke to The Washington Post… If they subpoena Dr. Ford, if they subpoena the therapist’s notes, if they subpoena Dr. Ford’s husband — who according to Dr. Ford was there when this incident was recounted — then they can interrogate them.”
Napolitano also said that allowing the FBI to “interrogate” Dr. Ford could be useful to Republicans if discrepancies are found in her story.
“It’s not necessarily going to hurt Kavanaugh’s case,” he said. “It might actually help it.”
